The IFCC Scientific Division (IFCC SD), in collaboration with the Greek Society for Clinical Chemistry-Clinical Biochemistry (GSCC-CB), is pleased to announce a joint meeting on Mass Spectrometry in the Clinical Laboratory. The title of this meeting is “Mass Spectrometry Meets Clinical Laboratories”. This event is scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece, from November 8 – 10, 2024, and is conducted in conjunction with the Annual Scientific Conference of the GSCC-CB.
By combining this IFCC meeting with the Annual Scientific Conference of the GSCC-CB information will be provided in a comprehensive manner taking global and regional needs into consideration. This is reflected in having presentations provided by regional and international subject matter experts and by allowing for in-person and virtual participation. It is planned to announce the meeting through the channels available at IFCC, EFLM and GSCC to ensure broad participation.
The IFCC-SD and GSCC-CB recognize that mass spectrometry is becoming a technology increasingly used in laboratory medicine. The quest for measuring new and established biomarkers with higher specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy is propelling advancements and innovations in laboratory medicine. As a result, mass spectrometry evolved into a well-established technology, particularly in the fields of endocrinology and therapeutic drug monitoring, complementing traditional chemistry and immunochemical methods.
The primary objective of this event is to inform laboratory professionals and clinicians about the strengths and challenges of this new technology.
Specifically, we aim to:
- Provide information on current applications and opportunities of mass spectrometry in endocrinology and therapeutic drug monitoring, outlining their strengths and limitations, and an outlook on future applications.
- Enhance understanding of quality and regulatory aspects specific to mass spectrometry-based assays, including test standardization and compliance with ISO standards.
- Foster an understanding of the role of mass spectrometry technology among the various technologies available to the clinical laboratory, highlighting the opportunities created in the era of personalized medicine.
The meeting will include scientific presentations and podium discussions with opportunities to have individual interactions with subject matter experts, providers of mass spectrometry instrumentation, reagents and supplies, and comprehensive assay solutions. Educational credits will be provided to participants.
The Organizing Committee believes that the success of the congress depends significantly on your active participation. We, therefore, look forward welcoming you to Athens in November for a stimulating and educational meeting.
